About the Cheese

The word "Tomme" refers to a wheel or round of cheese, with variations found across different regions and types of milk in France. However, Tomme de Savoie is undoubtedly the most famous and beloved tomme cheese from France.

Tomme de Savoie hails from the picturesque mountainous region of Savoie. It was initially created as a by-product of producing large mountain cheeses like Beaufort.

Made from semi-skimmed raw milk,  and colloquially known as "skinny cheese," Tomme de Savoie boasts a clean, milky, and buttery flavour. Its suede-like natural rind imparts an earthy aroma, contributing to the cheese's distinctive mushroomy notes.

Enjoy Tomme de Savoie with light beers, as well as elegant white or red wines.

Cheesemaker: Cooperative Laitiere de Yenne

Established in 1962 in Yenne, Savoie, at the foot of the Dent du Chat, between the Aiguebelette and Bourget lakes, the Yenne Porte de Savoie Dairy Cooperative collects milk daily from producers in the heart of the Chat massifs, Charve, Épine chain, and Aiguebelette lake areas.

Rich in high-quality pastures and traditional know-how, the Yenne Cooperative produces Tommes de Savoie, de Yenne, de Montagne, and Emmental de Savoie, offering a delightful taste of an extraordinary terroir.
