The Cheese Lady's Recommended Pairings
|Style and texture||Mountain, firm|
|Drink||Medium-bodied white and red wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines|
One of the most classic mountain cheeses from the French Alps.
Having been produced since the 12th century, Abondance is a cheese with a long history and today it is protected by French and European law. Under the regulations, it always has to be made with raw milk in the Haute Savoie region of France. Wheels are matured for a minimum of 100 days, developing a bright orange rind.
The paste is rich, smooth and creamy on the palate. The flavour is intense and lingering, full of buttery, nutty notes with a touch of zingy acidity in the after taste.
Enjoy with medium-bodied white or red wines, ales, and whisky.
Maturity: minimum 100 days

Due to the relatively small scale of our cheese and condiment producers, occasionally some cheeses and condiments may be unavailable and we will have to substitute them with similar products. Please state in the notes on the Cart page, if you do not wish to have any substitutions.
