Barbera D'asti Fiulot, Prunotto, Piedmont, Italy
Aromatically pleasing with subtle notes of plum and cherry. The palate boasts a well-organized and velvety texture, showcasing the characteristic red fruit and vibrant personality inherent to the Barbera grape variety.
Producer: Prunotto
The Prunotto estate is located in the city of Alba, surrounded by the rolling plains of vines of the Langhe and Roero appellations. They make the most of this advantageous location, producing wines from vines scattered across many of the region’s most prestigious areas of the Piedmont region.
The estate was originally formed as a co-op in the early 1900s. However, when it fell on hard financial times, winemaker Alfredo Prunotto took over the estate and gave it his family name. He fast developed a reputation for his wonderful Barolo and restored the reputation of his vines. Additionally, Alfredo was seen as a visionary when it came to the potential for export of Italian wines. He was among the first producers to begin selling wines to both North and South America, as he acknowledged the sustainability of the Italian wine industry could not solely be based on domestic consumption.
Nowadays, the team at the helm produce a range of wines that are an encapsulation of the region’s natural beauty and terroirs. However, crucially, they have never strayed too far from Alfredo’s visionary style, ensuring that the name Prunotto is still as synonymous with quality as it was 100 years ago.
