Mother's Day: Make It Extra Special with Fine Cheese and Wine

Mother's Day is a special occasion that allows us to show appreciation and love for the special women in our lives. While many people opt for traditional gifts such as flowers and chocolates, you can make the day extra special by choosing a unique and delicious gift.

So if you're looking for something different, why not go for some incredible artisan cheeses, paired with a bottle of sparkling wine!

Here are four artisan cheese recommendations that are sure to delight your mum or grandmother on Mother's Day, especially if they are paired with a glass of her favourite bubbly wine:

La Tur: a unique delicious Italian soft cheese made with cow's, goat's and sheep milk blended together. It creates a melt-in-your-mouth cheese which is rich, velvety and creamy in texture. It has a deliciously complex taste with buttery sweetness and light yoghurty zing. flavours. It is made using traditional rennet and works beautifully with sparkling and light-bodied white wines.

Rachel: a semi-firm nutty goats’ milk cheese made in Somerset. It is Gouda-like in style, tastes elegant and nutty and is suitable for vegetarians. The White Lake Cheese Co. produce this bouncy cheese made with thermalised milk with a washed rind. The resulting taste is mellow and delicately lingering. It works well with lightly oaked white, rose and even red wines.

Appenzeller "Extra": a matured Swiss raw cow's milk cheese produced with traditional rennet. It is rind washed with a secret brine consisting of wine and spices which gives it a fruity edge. The black label Appenzeller is matured for a minimum of 6 months but often much longer than that to develop its flavours. It has a wonderfully smooth texture and is aromatic, sweet and nutty, perfect to enjoy with a glass of fine wine.

Gorgonzola Dolce: an Italian blue cow’s milk cheese made in Lombardy. It is made with pasteurised milk using traditional rennet and has a soft mellow taste. I strongly recommend it for people who would like to be gently introduced to blue cheeses. It is both rich, and luxurious with a very elegant look. Gorgonzola Dolce’s texture soft and creamy with a slightly smelly aroma but its sweet nutty aftertaste will leave you overjoyed. Enjoy it with some honey, or fresh fruit it also works well with slightly sweet sparkling wines, like Moscato d'Asti.

As a mother myself, I know that Mother's Day is a wonderful occasion and it feels great to be pampered by the family with delicious artisan gifts, especially as I don't really like gifts that can potentially clutter the house... So by opting for some scrumptious cheeses them with a bottle of sparkling wine, you'll make your mum truly happy indeed!
